The US has lost its AAA credit rating. This is because the government has a spending problem. So it's time for the USA to lose, once and for all, its illusion that it can afford a welfare state. A national commitment to take care of everyone is just crazy, right? Serious, adult people understand that we can't hand government a blank check to spend money. In particular, look at the example to our north.
- Canada has universal health care.
Sounds nice. But there is a horrible, horrible cost to this. You need to know that
- Canadians pay more taxes than Americans do.
It's a grim socialist hell up there. Just look at this picture of Canadians in holding cells waiting their death panel hearings that I found on Fox.com, or maybe it was Drudge.
Universal health care means that the government has the incentive to deny you the care you need to save costs. Don't be fooled by junk science. showing that
That's because the US can't control its borders. It's flooded with immigrants, who aren't as healthy as real Americans. Except that
Doesn't matter. The important point is that universal health care isn't sustainable. Someone's got to be the grown up. Canadians just haven't faced the facts yet. This may be because
- Canada has a national debt / GDP ratio of 39% (US = ~100%).
- Canada has a AAA Standard & Poor's rating.
See? Social democracy just doesn't work.
